This will be made easier and quicker by adding SMP Intensive Clean (NB. never use acid based products on any polished, glazed, or highly honed surfaces, always read the label carefully) to the cleaning water which in turn will break down any adhesive residues while at the same time removing any building dust and general dirt leaving the surface in the best possible condition to be sealed. Sealing before grouting To stop grout from staining and make it easier to remove, the porosity of the surface must be reduced by using SMP Stain Guard, this will also protect the stone from all sorts of staining agents that may be spilt on the surface in the future. Apply a single light coat to the surface using a cloth or a brush, and leave to penetrate into the pours for approx 30 mins. Cleaning after grouting After the grout has dried, the surface must be cleaned again using SMP Intensive Clean to help remove grout and dirt, by adding it to the cleaning water. This product has been specially formulated to remove grout and dirt residues without harming the previous layers of sealant. Final protection To prolong the life and beauty of the stone and make it easier to maintain a final coat of SMP Stain Guard should be applied to the cleaned, dry surface, allowing approx. 30 mins. drying time. By applying the second coat of SMP Stain Guard. as well as sealing the stone you will also be sealing the grout lines. If after drying , the floor appears cloudy or patchy looking, this is due to the fact that the pours of the stone are totally blocked with sealer / impregnator and the excess has dried on the surface. To remove this simply rub the surface with a cloth dampened in white spirits and buff dry with a clean towel or similar. Maintenance To keep the newly protected stone in pristine condition and to prolong the life of the sealer only use SMP Sealed Floor Maintainer as the regular cleaning agent, as off the shelf household cleaning products can contain harmful caustics which in turn can diminish the life of the sealer and the stone surface. SMP Sealed Floor Maintainer is made to compliment all of the sealers / impregnators in the SMP range, which when used regularly not only keeps the floor clean but also repairs minor surface scratches which may occur. It can be buffed to a high shine if desired. Restoration The floor will eventually become dull over a period of time due to wear and tear and acrylic build ups caused by cleaning. This can be easily remedied by using SMP Floor Tile Restorer following the instructions carefully, which in turn will leave the surface in an “as new “ condition.
